Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Long Term Acute Care Stepdown Unit (SDU) position specializing in respiratory and vent-dependent patients, with night shift availability and a CT or compact RN license required.
Details
- Work in a Respiratory Stepdown Unit (SDU) within a Long Term Acute Care hospital setting
- Primary patient population consists of respiratory-focused, vent-dependent patients in a medical (non-traditional Med/Surg) environment
- Respiratory Care Unit (RCU) has 36 beds; Respiratory Stepdown Unit (SDU) has 38 beds
- Patient ratios: 1:9 on day/evening shifts and 1:12 on night shifts
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating required to like chronic care units including RCU, RCU2, SDU, and TRU; travelers float first
- During a 12-hour shift, you may work 4 hours on one unit and 8 hours on another
- TRU unit serves TBI and medically complex chronic care patients (ratios: D/E 1:7–10, N 1:12)
Requirements
- Active CT or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with respiratory and/or vent-dependent patients strongly preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Nurses are responsible for IV starts, drips, blood administration, EKGs, medication titrations, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, complex and simple wound dressings, trach care, suctioning, straight cath, foley care, port access, central line dressings, and wound measurements
- Respiratory therapists (RTs) manage ventilators — nurses do not
- Local candidates are welcome to apply
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate
