Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Stepdown (IMCU) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips on a heavy cardiac unit.

Details

• Work in a 28-bed private room Stepdown/IMCU unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Heavy cardiac patient population including dysrhythmias, CVAs, and patients downgraded from ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 (up to 1:6 for MedSurg acuity patients)
• EMR system is Epic (currently transitioning from Cerner)
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7:30a); 13-week assignment
• Every other weekend required: Nights cover Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Every other holiday, rotating into the permanent staff holiday schedule
• May float to the ICU in a helping hands capacity
• Telemetry monitoring in place; unit also serves as the central monitor station for the entire hospital
• Must be able to titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin; insulin is set-rate only; no sedation drips
• Respiratory support equipment on unit includes BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7; Intensivist in ICU 7 days/week 7a–7p and on-call after hours; NP support sometimes available
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy are both in-house 24/7
• No dedicated IV team; ICU charge nurses or ICU Director available for difficult IV access
• 2 CNAs per shift during day and mid-shift; no CNA coverage after 11p on nights

Requirements

• Active PA RN license or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Stepdown or IMCU/PCU experience required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
• Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin)
• Epic EMR experience preferred; Cerner experience a plus
• Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility)
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry nursing care to a heavy cardiac population, including dysrhythmia management and post-ICU step-down patients
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips; unit functions as the central telemetry monitoring station for the entire hospital
• Orientation consists of 2 shifts with a preceptor
• EKG competency testing is required for this Stepdown unit
• Navy blue scrubs required; any jacket worn must also be navy blue
• Block scheduling is available; unit director is noted to be communicative and supportive of traveler scheduling needs
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Cumulative travel experience within the WVU system is capped at one year, after which a 2-year break is required before returning
