Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology position requiring an active MI RN license and 2+ years of oncology nursing experience.

Details

• Work in the Hematology/Oncology unit of a children's hospital, including a newly opened adult outpatient program within the pediatric setting
• Care for patients with leukemia, blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Required to work every other weekend
• On-call responsibilities required
• Perform cell and gene therapy administration, blood product administration, chemotherapy and conditioning treatment administration, supportive care, and patient triage

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
• Current BLS certification required
• Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of hematology/oncology nursing experience required
• Bone marrow transplant experience preferred, including experience administering cells
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and PICC line care
• Experience with biotherapy, cytotoxic therapy, and recognizing/managing treatment side effects
• Experience administering chemotherapy via IV push and oral routes, and managing cytotoxic spills
• Skilled in recognizing and managing oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and sepsis
• Experience with CAR-T and stem cell therapy administration preferred
• Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care including symptom management, care coordination, and telephone triage
• Administer medications including antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, and Neupogen
• Follow isolation precautions, PPE protocols, and neutropenic precautions
• Provide psychosocial care and patient/family education and support
• Perform phlebotomy skills as needed
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• No pre-hire training modules required; all modules completed onsite during orientation
• Required certifications must be obtained prior to start date
• No requested time off allowed during the first week of the contract
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Traveler pairs are not accepted for this assignment
• Previous employees of the facility within the last 12 months are not eligible to apply
• Permanent staff may return as travelers after a 1-year separation
