Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Mixed ICU environment divided into pods (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 total beds
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Cardiac experience is preferred, including post-op CABG/TAVR (24–48 hrs) experience, though not required for travelers
• Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely and dependent on acuity
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use with transition to Baxter pumps expected by October; Omnicell for medication dispensing
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Weekend rotation targets every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele (1:4 ratio) is possible but uncommon; traveler comfort with floating will be discussed

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license valid in South Dakota required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (TNCC must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience); candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; and ventilator management required
• Strong telemetry, critical thinking, and assessment skills required
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• DOB and SSN required for consideration
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are not eligible; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning in a travel capacity
• Travelers will not be assigned to the CVICU side of the unit unless they have direct experience in that specialty
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy (peripheral only), and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
• Orientation consists of one hospital orientation day, one 12-hour ICU shift, and one 8-hour ICU shift
• May be asked to precept nursing students
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, contingent on fulfilling the full 13-week contract
• Navy scrubs required
