Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a high-acuity Medical Intermediate Care Unit (IMC/PCU) position in Anchorage, AK, requiring a permanent AK RN license and at least 1 year of step-down/IMC/PCU experience.
Details
- Located on the 4th floor of a main hospital building in Anchorage, AK
- 19-bed Medical Intermediate Care Unit (IMC/PCU) — a high-acuity step-down ICU environment
- Patient ratio of 3:1
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- 13-week contract
- Equipment used includes bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated humidity high-flow O2, BiPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy, Kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, and surgical drains
- EMR: Epic
- Every other weekend required (alternating Saturday/Sunday shifts)
- Floating may be required to Cardiac Surgery IMC, Med-Tele, Med-Surg, and Ortho-Neuro units
- Delayed start is used in place of on-call shifts when census is low
Requirements
- Active, permanent Alaska RN license required at the time of consideration — temporary licenses are not accepted
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — AHA or ARC accepted, no certifications expiring within the first 30 days of the start date
- Minimum 1 year of step-down ICU/IMC/PCU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience required
- At least 2 years of total clinical experience required
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration — Canadian SSNs are not accepted
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- AK RN fingerprinting must be completed during onboarding before the traveler can be cleared to work
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Preferred experience includes working with trach patients requiring continuous BiPAP or long-term vent support
- Preferred experience with titratable drips including dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, Cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone
- Preferred experience with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment
- Typical procedures include emergent cardioversion; procedures requiring moderate sedation are performed in a dedicated procedural area
- Unit responsibilities include physical assessments and I&O every 4 hours, hourly safety rounds, repositioning and ADLs every 2 hours as indicated, and mandatory bedside handoff
- Ideal candidates are positive, team-focused, and comfortable adapting to rapidly changing acuity in a busy, fast-paced environment handling rapid responses, ED admissions, and ICU transfers
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Staffing consists of 1 charge RN and 6 RNs per shift
