Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with strong orthopedic trauma and C-section circulating experience for a 13-week travel contract at a teaching hospital in Presque Isle, Maine.
Details
- Work setting is a 4-OR suite within an 89-bed licensed teaching hospital
- Case types include general surgery (open and laparoscopic bowel, gallbladder, appendix, hernias), urology, ENT, ophthalmology, GYN (including C-sections), and orthopedics with a heavy trauma focus
- Average of 10–12 scheduled cases per day
- Ortho trauma cases are a primary focus; total joints experience is preferred
- After-hours and on-call cases include trauma, ER C-sections, and emergency general surgery
- Schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM
- On-call required approximately 1 shift per week and 1 weekend every 4–6 weeks
- Weekend on-call coverage runs Friday 3:00 PM through Monday 6:30 AM for emergent cases only
- Call-back response time is 30 minutes
- Holiday coverage is on-call only
- No floating required
- EMR: Cerner (with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing)
Requirements
- Active RN license — Maine (ME) or Compact license required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in OR specialty
- C-section circulating experience is required
- Ortho trauma experience is required; total joints experience is preferred
- Experience with after-hours/on-call cases (trauma, ER C-sections, emergency general surgery) required
- Prior travel experience preferred; first-time travelers are less likely to be considered
- Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME (489 State St, Bangor, ME 04401) to be eligible
- Candidates who have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity are not eligible
- Flu vaccination required for employment clearance (medical exemptions accepted on a case-by-case basis)
- Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse — peer references are not accepted
- Full SSN, driver's license, and copies of all certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Circulating responsibilities include a broad range of surgical specialties with emphasis on orthopedic trauma and GYN
- Supported by a supervisor, OR educator, and CRNAs who cover all rooms
- Orientation is approximately 2 weeks based on skillset and comfort level, with a call buddy assigned during the first 2 weeks
- No sleep room available during on-call — stretchers are available in Day Surgery
- Surgical scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking is available on-site
- Schedule is issued in 6-week cycles; all RTO requests require manager approval
- Candidates living 100+ miles north of Bangor, ME may be considered on a case-by-case basis with individual approval from facility nursing leadership
