Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position specializing in high-acuity orthopedic trauma care, requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience.
Details
- PCU/Ortho unit within a tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Cares for high acuity orthopedic post-op and trauma patients along with overflow surgical patients (eyes, gyn, plastics)
- Patient ratio of 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
- Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per 6-week schedule (combination of Fri/Sat/Sun)
- On-call requirement of 1-2 weekdays per week and 2 weekends per 13-week contract
- May be required to float within scope to other PCU floors, departments, and facilities as needed
- Charge RN assignments and holiday shifts as needed per unit
- Uses Epic charting system
- Utilizes specialized equipment including traction, PICC/mid lines, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, hemovac drains, and doppler
Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri or compact required, Kansas license also required due to floating needs
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience, with a full year in-specialty within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line management, and IV starts
- Experience with orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, and peripheral nerve block catheters required
- Skilled in wound care/wound vac management and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience with PCA medication administration and surgical drain management
- Two professional references required: one supervisor-level or above and one charge RN, both from within the past year
Additional Information
- Provide post-operative care for high-acuity orthopedic trauma patients including total joints, ORIF fractures, laminectomy, and hand surgery cases
- Support high patient turnover and high-volume daily admissions on the unit
- Facility recognized as a 5-time Magnet Award winner
- Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be considered; no local candidates accepted
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized at time of submission
- Returning staff must have 18 months tenure with a 3-month break in service; former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
