Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a mixed adult ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least one prior travel assignment, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed adult ICU setting divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU (39 total beds)
• Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
• Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
• Cardiac experience is preferred; CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op experience is a plus but not required
• Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, depending on acuity
• 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
• EMR: Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
• Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• Floating to adult floors, including Med/Surg and Tele at a 1:4 ratio, is uncommon but possible if overstaffed
• No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience (candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered with management approval)
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will not be considered — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
• Candidates must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to the facility as a traveler
• Travelers will not float to the CVICU side unless they have experience in that specialty
• Orientation includes hospital orientation, an 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, a 4-hour iLearns completion session, and 2 twelve-hour floor orientation shifts
• Unit support includes CNAs, charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), RT available 24/7, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP
• RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; no RTO during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
• Navy scrubs required
• May be expected to precept nursing students
