Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring PCU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds and occasional pediatric patients
- 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
- Cares for patients with solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
- High acuity PCU patient population with a small amount of med surg
- Rotating 12-hour Day/Night shift schedule reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Staffing ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of submission
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience with at least 1 year of PCU experience
- Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skilled in interpretation of dysrhythmias, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, non-invasive airway management (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula), ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required
- Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, insulin protocols/titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration/monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, and surgical drain care
- 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager or director and no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
- Pediatric patients are occasionally cared for on the unit but are primarily managed by permanent staff, and pediatric experience is not required
- First-time travelers are welcome with a willingness to learn and grow nursing practice
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible for a travel assignment at any location within the system
- RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing the contract, with candidates outside the state required to travel for fingerprinting or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
