Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring an active OH or compact RN license and PCU experience within an oncology telemetry setting.

Details

• Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit within a cancer hospital setting
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients may be present but are typically cared for by permanent staff
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
• Rotating D/N contract option available with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU experience required
• High acuity PCU patient experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team use, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drain care, and non-invasive airway management
• Oncology and teaching hospital experience preferred but not required
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology patients requiring progressive care level monitoring with a heavy focus on infection prevention and fall protocols
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is encouraged; previous travel experience is preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any location within the system
• Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
• RTO must be requested at time of submission and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
