Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on a 6N Overflow unit, requiring 2 years of experience and rotating day/night shifts including weekends.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit (6N Overflow) in a hospital setting with 30 beds
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, appendectomy, and cholecystitis
- Patient ratio of 1:6-7 (candidates must be comfortable with a ratio of up to 1:7)
- Telemetry monitored remotely by monitor techs
- Intermittent BiPAP used on unit (no ventilators)
- RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on aPTT results
- PCTs available on the unit
- Charge RN on the floor carries an assignment
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, weekends scheduled as needed (typically every other weekend)
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required based on census; travelers are floated first
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
- A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed upfront
- Must be comfortable with a patient ratio of up to 1:7

- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one cumulative year before requiring a 2-year break
- Scheduling managed through Qgenda
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a permanent facility if worked in the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
