Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position working night shifts in a hospital setting, with a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active GA or compact RN license required.
Details
- Medical/Surgical unit in a hospital setting with 34 beds and an average daily census of 27
- Adult to geriatric patient population with diagnoses including appendicitis, cholecystitis, small bowel obstruction, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, HTN, hypo/hyperglycemia, prostatectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ostomy creation/reversal, exploratory laparotomy, and bowel resections
- Equipment includes NGT, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound vacs
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Charting via Epic; Pyxis and SBAR communication also used
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the facility and scope of practice required as needed
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA or compact license required
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required
- Colostomy/ileostomy management and feeding tube care required
- Wound care experience required
- Isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Prior Med/Surg work setting experience required
- Travel nursing experience required
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RTO maximum of 7 days per contract; all RTO must be finalized prior to placement — no RTO or schedule changes will be accommodated after an offer is made, including the first week of the assignment; the weekend of 5/25–5/27 cannot be accommodated
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work 2 of them — major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Candidates who have worked at or been employed directly by this health system (in any capacity) must have been away from all system facilities for a full year before being eligible to apply as a traveler
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
- The listed shift and schedule are firm — no alternate shift or schedule requests will be considered
- Two supervisory references (manager level or above) are highly preferred
