Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of NICU experience, EPIC EMR proficiency, and an active SC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a hospital environment
- Care for neonates 22 weeks gestation and greater with diagnoses including abdominal wall defects, HIE, RDS/RFS, drug exposure/withdrawal, hypoglycemia, sepsis, TEF, duodenal atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, urethral stenosis, myelomeningocele, and ROP
- Perform and assist with special procedures including full body cooling, chest tube management, surgical repair of anomalies (excluding cardiac), tracheostomy management, and Avastin administration/laser eye surgery
- Utilize specialized equipment such as Artic Sun, Blanketroll, Jet Ventilator, HFOV, Draeger Ventilator, HFNC, Bubble CPAP, Alaris, Philips central monitors, B Braun and Infinity feeding pumps, Atom and GE dual incubators, Draeger Caleos, and radiant warmers
- Documentation via EPIC EMR and unit medication system via Pyxis/Omnicell
- Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 1900-0730) with an option for no call, or 3x12 hours with a bi-weekly 12-hour call shift
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend unless staffing needs change
- Floating required to other NICU units or facilities as needed based on census, limited to units where competencies have been demonstrated
Requirements
- Active SC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and STABLE
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of recent EPIC EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience with patient ratios of 1:2
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, arterial line management, central line care, and UAC/UVC management
- Experience administering emergency medications, anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, steroids, and surfactants
- Proficient in neonatal dosage calculations and conscious sedation preferred
- Experience with respiratory care including ventilator management, Bubble CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care
- Skilled in developmental care, APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, and phlebotomy
- Experience managing conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), gastroschisis/omphalocele, neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, and neonatal sepsis
- Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and VP shunt management preferred
- No first-time travelers considered for this position
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care to a diverse neonatal population with complex medical and surgical needs
- Support includes coordination with a multidisciplinary NICU team for specialized procedures and equipment management
- Travelers must reside greater than 100 miles from any facility within the health system to be eligible, with candidates 90-99.9 miles away accepted at a reduced rate
- Orientation occurs every Monday
- Pre-assignment testing and required training modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
