Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a rural LDRP hospital in California, requiring a valid CA RN license and at least 5 years of L&D experience.
Details
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- 13-week contract
- LDRP unit within a rural community hospital setting with fewer than 100 facility births per month (approximately 225 deliveries/year)
- Comprehensive care across labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care including stabilization prior to transport
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Work settings include antepartum, high-risk antepartum, L&D, LDRP, Level I Nursery, and Mother/Baby
- No charting system experience specifically required; any EMR background accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM); AWHONN Intermediate required; AWHONN Advanced preferred; all certifications must be AHA or ARC issued
- Minimum 5 years of L&D experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Proficiency in IV therapy/phlebotomy, drawing venous blood, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience with labor and delivery management including assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, hemorrhage/shock, C-section recovery, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with antepartum procedures including NST, triage of OB patients, and use of external fetal monitoring (EFM)
- Experience with postpartum care including couplet care, fundus/lochia/perineum assessment, episiotomy/incisional care, and postpartum hemorrhage management
- Neonatal care skills including APGAR scoring, radiant warmer use, newborn assessment, and ID/security banding
- Medication administration experience including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
- 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required for consideration
- 7-year work history verification required
Additional Information
- Provides comprehensive, patient-centered care in a supportive, team-oriented environment
- Preferred skills include amnioinfusion, spiral electrode placement, internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, cord sample collection, breastfeeding/lactation support, baby-friendly protocols, and circumcision assistance
- Holiday coverage is required; covered holidays include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (holidays run from 7:00 PM the night before through 7:00 AM the day after); only 1 holiday off per contract may be requested
- Maximum of 7 days of RTO per contract
- Candidates living within a 50-mile radius of the facility may be considered at a local rate
- Former employees may return without a mandatory separation period; former manager's name must be provided on the application
