Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool night shift position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience and compact or AL RN licensure.
Details
- Hospital-based Staff Float Pool MedSurg position within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- Floats to various Med/Surg units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MedSurg/Ortho/Urology units
- Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular surgery, neuroscience (CVA, TBI, seizure, craniotomy), oncology, orthopedics, and general medical conditions such as COPD, CHF, sepsis, and renal failure
- Typical patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment
- 12-hour night shifts on a 36/48 schedule, beginning at 7:00pm
- Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units/patient locations, including MS-MS, MS-ICU (task only), and MS-ER/MS holds, with ICU float limited to 3 patients
- Cerner EMR preferred
- Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Support staff on units includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist
Requirements
- Active RN license (Alabama or Compact) required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg experience required
- At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience required for Trauma Surgical unit assignments
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
- Skills may include wound care, chest tube care, NGT, IV starts, central line blood draws, trach care, ostomy/colostomy care, PEG tube care, and medication administration/documentation depending on unit assignment
- Chemo administration certification preferred for Oncology unit assignments
Additional Information
- Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
- Any color scrubs permitted
- Parking available in designated parking deck, levels 2 through 4
- Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position
- Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
