Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring recent Level I or II trauma experience and a Nebraska or compact RN license.
Details
- Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, and Comprehensive Stroke Center with 20 beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 OBS beds, and hallway beds
- 6-bed Fast Track and 3-bed separate triage area available
- 24/7 in-house security housed in the ER
- Patient ratios: 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 for ICU/Trauma patients
- Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and TPA-eligible strokes
- ED physicians and mid-levels staffed on every shift along with a charge nurse
- Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters support the unit with ratios of 1:10 in OBS and 1:20 in main ED
- Tele/monitor techs available, but RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips
- EPIC EMR system used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts with rotating start times including 1500-0300 and 1900-0700
- Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
- Floating required to the OBS unit and Freestanding Creighton ER at least once weekly
- 1 week of onboarding including 2 shifts at the main facility and 1 shift at the Freestanding Creighton ER
- Fast-paced, high-acuity work environment
- 36 hours per week guaranteed on a 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active Nebraska or Compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Recent Level I or Level II trauma experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- NRP certification preferred
- BSN not required
- Must pass a Pass/Fail open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Driver's license required at time of consideration to verify residence location
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Artificial fingernails prohibited in all patient care areas
Additional Information
- Provide emergency nursing care across zones, Fast Track, OBS, and trauma/ICU areas in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Work alongside ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, and support staff including EMTs and paramedics
- Read and interpret own telemetry strips despite availability of monitor techs
- Candidates must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
