Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring 2 years of L&D experience and a TX or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a hospital with fewer than 100 births per month
- Patient population includes antepartum, labor and delivery, LDRP, and mother/baby cases
- 1:1 patient ratio
- Performs labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulation and recovery, and forceps/vacuum extraction
- Administers medications including anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
- Provides neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, ID/security banding, and thermoregulation
- Delivers newborn care including circumcision site assessment, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, and newborn assessment
- Provides postpartum care including baby-friendly protocols, breastfeeding/lactation support, episiotomy/incisional care, and foley catheter management
- Assists with surgical cases including cervical cerclage, D&C, and tubal ligation
- Manages postpartum patients with C-section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Utilizes fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring, spiral electrode placement, and IUPC placement and calibration
- Provides antepartum care including NST, reflex checks, edema assessment, and obstetrical triage
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- May consider 36 hours/week
- 13-week assignment length
Requirements
- Active RN license (TX or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NRP; AWHONN Beginner and Intermediate required, AWHONN Advanced preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood and blood product administration, venous blood draw, and IV maintenance
- Sterile vaginal exam and hemorrhage/shock management skills required
- Epidural anesthesia and pain management experience required
- Isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration knowledge required
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns required
- Use of external fetal heart monitoring (EFM) required
- Altera charting experience preferred but not required
- Travel experience preferred but not required
Additional Information
- Facility conducts its own onsite drug screen upon arrival, including marijuana testing; a positive result results in automatic cancellation with no exceptions
- Candidates should avoid any substances, including CBD products, that could result in a positive drug screen prior to arrival onsite
- Must reside within a 150-mile radius to be considered a local candidate; local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Previous permanent staff must have been separated from employment for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Clinicians must be available to complete required lab items within 72 hours of accepting the offer or have a plan in place for completion within that timeframe
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Non-billable orientation modules averaging 6-8 hours are completed during orientation

Travel friendly, great staff, clean ER, everyone really helps out good team nursing skills. You will see snd learn alot at this ER. Night shift is were its at, great team.
Cons
High acuity and often short staffed. Very busy. Probably one of the hardest places ive worked but you see ALOT and use your skills!! Tired after every shift. Definitely not for the weak. You really need some experience to work here.
