Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Neuro Med/Surg Tele unit requiring 2 years of relevant acute care experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Work on a Neuro Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Rotating day and night shifts, 3x12 hours, with weekend rotation
• Some holiday coverage required based on operational need
• Floating required as needed
• Uses Epic EMR system
• Patient population includes CVA, TBI, spinal cord injury, pre/post neurosurgery, and substance withdrawal cases

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA only) required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care Neuro Med/Surg Tele experience within the last 3 years required
• Epic EMR experience required, within past 12 months preferred
• Trauma Level I hospital experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Must pass a telemetry competency exam prior to starting, including adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation with strict passing criteria
• Skills required include IV therapy, central and peripheral line management, telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and PCA/insulin/heparin administration
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have 2 years of Level I or similarly sized hospital inpatient neuro experience within the last 2 years

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to neurological and med/surg telemetry patients including monitoring, medication administration, and wound care
• Work within a Magnet-designated, Level I trauma teaching hospital ranked as Wisconsin's #1 hospital
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
• Participate in rapid response and code team activations as needed
• Candidates must submit to a telemetry exam with strict criteria, requiring 100% accuracy on lethal rhythm identification and an 80% or higher passing score
• Up to three attempts allowed to pass telemetry exam, with a cardiac interpretation review course certificate required after a second failed attempt
