Description
American Traveler is hiring a Neuro MS/Tele RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of recent Neuro MS/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit specializing in neurological patient care
- Patient population includes CVA, TBI, spinal cord injury, pre/post neurosurgery, and substance withdrawal cases
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30, Monday through Friday
- Weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- Uses Epic EMR
- Floating required as needed
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required (AHA only)
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience in Neuro MS/Tele within the last 3 years required
- Epic EMR experience required, within the past 12 months preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Must pass a telemetry competency exam prior to starting, covering adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation
- Skilled in IV therapy, central and peripheral line management, PICC line care, and blood product administration
- Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy, and oxygen administration
- Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response protocols
- Experience with wound care/wound vac and IV insulin protocols
- First-time travelers considered if they have 2 years of Level I or similarly sized hospital inpatient neuro experience within the last 2 years
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to neurological and telemetry patients including monitoring, medication administration, and emergency response
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility as local candidates are not accepted
- Telemetry exam requires 100% accuracy on lethal rhythm identification and no more than one incorrect answer on 3rd degree heart block questions, with an overall passing score of 80% or higher
- Up to two attempts allowed for the telemetry exam; a third attempt requires completion of a cardiac interpretation review course
- Assignment may be cancelled if telemetry exam is not passed after three attempts
- Works within a Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital environment
