Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN - Med/Surg Tele for a Surgical Telemetry unit, requiring a NC or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med/Tele nursing experience.

Details

  • Work on a 26-bed Surgical Telemetry unit within a 207-licensed-bed hospital
  • Care for general medical telemetry overflow and surgical patients including bariatric, urology, general post-op, and abdominal surgery cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, with critical surge ratios up to 1:7-8
  • CNA to patient ratio ranges from 1:6-12
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700) at 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back responsibilities
  • Floating required within designated region to other facilities as needed, within scope of practice
  • Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • Facility is a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center with no trauma designation and is not a teaching hospital
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids required
  • PCA pump experience required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care to a mix of surgical and telemetry overflow patients on a busy 5N Surgical Telemetry unit
  • Supported by CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, resource nurses, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivist coverage
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech on the unit
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any missed contracted hours added to the end of the assignment
  • Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available onsite
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before eligibility
