Description
American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a night shift acute care position requiring 2+ years of experience and WV or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work on a 43-bed semi-private Cardiac Telemetry unit with 9-10 private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
- Care for patients with post heart caths, TR bands, CHF, COPD, post pacers, arrhythmias, and those awaiting CABG consult or medical management
- Average patient ratio of 1:5, with flexing up to 1:6
- Titrate Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex drips
- Read cardiac monitor strips as the unit serves as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower
- PCT support available at a goal ratio of 1:8, flexing up to 1:12-18
- Occasional use of High Flow, BiPAP, and CPAP for supportive therapy only
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend for travelers (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon for nights)
- Self-scheduling allowed with block scheduling accommodated based on unit needs
- Rare call or standby requirement possible depending on census
- Floating required within skillset to other units including ICU (rare) and Stepdown
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Must be able to read cardiac telemetry strips
- Comfortable caring for cardiac telemetry patient population
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Perform admissions and discharges independently in a fast-paced environment averaging 8-12 discharges and 8-12 admissions per day
- Strong team-oriented culture with staff regularly helping one another
- Charge Nurse coverage 24/7; night charge nurses take a patient assignment and travelers comfortable with charge duties may be considered
- Unit clerk supports the team
- Orientation includes 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of shadowing with a preceptor
- Unit is experienced in training new grads and welcomes first-time travelers
- Scrub color is Royal Blue; scrub jackets optional but must be actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
- Holiday coverage may be required for travelers if unit needs cannot be met by permanent staff
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify as a traveler
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers are limited to a maximum of one year of cumulative work within WVU facilities before requiring a 2-year break
