Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with Neuro experience preferred for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

• Works in a Neuro Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population focuses on general medicine with an emphasis on neuro diagnoses
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift, 4x12-hour schedule (18:45-07:15)
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
• 13-26 week assignment lengths accepted
• Weekend requirement of 5-6 shifts, equating to every other weekend
• Floating required, with travelers floating first
• Uses Pyxis and EPIC systems, with SBAR communication
• Manager-based scheduling
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Neuro nursing experience preferred
• Experience with CVA (cerebrovascular accident) patients preferred
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience preferred
• Telemetry experience preferred
• IV therapy/phlebotomy and peripheral line management skills required
• Charge RN experience or willingness to learn the role preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care with a focus on neurological patients
• Utilize a teamwork approach to patient care with emphasis on patient safety
• Manage isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• Perform non-invasive airway management and nasal cannula respiratory care
• Unit orientation lasts 24 hours, scheduled weekly
• Navy blue scrubs required (not provided)
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health/New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with prior employment disclosed for facility approval
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
