Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level IV NICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of NICU IV experience along with recent trach and vent experience.

Details

  • Work in the Neonatal ICU of a children's hospital providing the highest level of care for premature and ill newborns as designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics
  • 70 dedicated NICU beds within a 323-bed inpatient facility
  • Patient population includes neonates of all gestational ages, from under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks
  • Patient ratios vary based on acuity, ranging from 1:1 to 1:4, with 1:2 being most common
  • Coordinate care for complex conditions including congenital heart defects, ECMO, respiratory distress and failure, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, and genetic/metabolic disorders
  • Perform tracheostomy care and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
  • Utilize Cerner charting system
  • Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) 3x12 hour shifts on a rotating schedule, rotating every 3-4 weeks
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Float to other critical care units including PICU and CICU with cross-training as needed

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required, or pending license accepted with documented application date and pending number (active license required prior to start date)
  • MD/VA applicants require compact or state license
  • Current BLS certification required
  • NRP and PALS certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU IV experience required
  • Recent tracheostomy and ventilator management experience required
  • Skills in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood/blood product administration, and IV vasopressor administration
  • Experience with blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, and gastrointestinal care including tube placement/management
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and sepsis workup
  • Experience with breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk
  • No license or background check hits allowed, with no exemptions

Additional Information

  • Facility is a teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center offering full range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists and pediatric anesthesiologists on site
  • Perform complex surgical procedures to repair congenital or acquired conditions
  • Scrubs may be any color but must be logo-free and child-friendly
  • Local candidates accepted with no mileage restriction at the same bill rate
  • Maximum RTO of 1 week; missed full-week time off must be made up at the end of the contract
  • No RTO permitted after initial offer
  • One guaranteed holiday with preference noted at time of scheduling request; second holiday assignment based on facility need
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Previous Children's National employees must have been separated from the facility for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • A photo must be provided upon contract signature if offered and accepted
  • Pre-start training modules must be completed prior to orientation
