Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Level IV NICU position requiring 2+ years of NICU IV experience with recent trach and vent experience.

Details

• Level IV NICU unit within a designated Level 1 Trauma pediatric teaching hospital
• 70 dedicated NICU beds within a 323-bed children's hospital
• Cares for premature and critically ill newborns including complex congenital or acquired conditions
• Patient population ranges from neonates under 24-28 weeks to over 34 weeks
• Manages conditions including coagulation defects, congenital heart defects, ECMO, GI disorders, genetic/metabolic disorders, respiratory distress/failure, pulmonary hypertension, renal disorders, and sepsis
• Patient ratios vary by acuity (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, rarely 1:4), with 1:2 most common
• 13-week assignment with Day (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or Night (3x12, 19:00-7:30) shifts
• Rotates between day and night shifts every 3-4 weeks
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• One holiday guaranteed based on preference; second based on facility need
• No on-call requirements
• Floats within scope to other critical care units including PICU and CICU, with cross-training as needed
• No age cutoff for patients
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Guaranteed hours of 36, with option for 48 hours before OT applies

Requirements

• Active DC RN license required, or active MD/VA compact or state license
• Pending DC license accepted at submission with proof of application date and pending license number, but active license required before start
• BLS certification required; NRP and PALS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required, with strong preference for 1.5+ years of Level IV NICU experience
• Recent tracheostomy care/management and ventilator management experience required (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
• NICU IV therapy experience required
• Skilled in arterial line management, blood/blood product administration, and emergency medication administration
• Experience with IV vasopressors, antibiotics/antivirals, and blood glucose monitoring
• Experience with phototherapy and GI care including colostomy/ileostomy management and tube feedings
• Experience with isolation precautions, PPE, and sepsis workup
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• No background check or license hits allowed with no exceptions
• Must not have been previously employed by the facility within the last year

Additional Information

• Coordinate comprehensive care for premature and critically ill newborns requiring the highest level of neonatal intensive care
• Work alongside on-site pediatric medical subspecialists, surgical subspecialists, and anesthesiologists
• Support complex surgical procedures for congenital and acquired conditions
• Scrubs may be any color but must be logo-free and child-friendly
• Missed shifts must be made up within the same week
• Maximum RTO of 7 days for the assignment, with no RTO permitted after initial offer
• Full-week RTO requires making up missed shifts or the assignment may be extended
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Local candidates accepted with no mileage restriction at the same bill rate
• Photo required upon contract signature if offered and accepted
• Compliance documentation due the Monday before start with no pending items
• Pre-start training modules must be completed prior to orientation
