Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring an active IL license, 2 years of ED experience, and ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.

Details

• Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department with 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 variable based on acuity and departmental needs
• Cares for a wide range of patient acuities from minor complaints to critically ill trauma, stroke, and cardiac arrest cases
• Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed initially by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
• Utilizes EPIC EMR system
• 12-hour night shift schedule with set shift start times, no day/night rotation
• Every other weekend rotation required, typically resulting in a 2-on/4-on or similar block schedule
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating or negotiable basis
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Rare floating possible to other units in a help-all capacity, not as primary team nurse
• ED techs staffed at a 1:9 ratio, with respiratory therapists and monitor techs also present
• Phillips cardiac monitors used with on-site orientation provided
• Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times, along with charge nurses and 24/7 house supervisor coverage

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS
• Prior travel nursing assignment experience preferred
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Experience in a teaching hospital with residents preferred
• Proficiency in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips required
• Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across a wide range of ED cases including trauma, stroke, cardiac, and general emergency presentations
• Work alongside a dedicated trauma team, charge nurses, and 24/7 house supervisor support
• Charge nurses may assist as a second nurse during traumas or critical cases but do not typically carry a patient assignment
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment
• Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-Ray and CT imaging
• Nurses and techs perform lab draws, with phlebotomy assisting for boarder patients at times
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation required, with guaranteed hours not applying during this period
• Scrub requirements include tasteful attire with solid-colored shirts underneath, no specific scrub color mandated
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a reduced local bill rate
• Time off requests may be included in the contract and are subject to scheduling manager approval
• COVID vaccination is not required for this position
