Description
American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN - Telemetry for a Med Surg/Telemetry unit, requiring WI or compact RN license and 1-2 years of acute care experience.
Details
- Med Surg/Telemetry unit with 28 beds in a Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital
- Patient population includes chest pain rule-out, post cath lab, CHF, AFib, CVA/TIA rule-out, post IR, cellulitis, and AKI cases
- Rarely surgical patients; average patient stay of 36 hours
- Admits and discharges 2-3 patients daily in a fast-paced environment
- Day shift ratio 1:4-5; night shift ratio 1:6-8
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to Medical Surgical Units and ED Holding (1:4 ratio), with travelers floated first
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with 24/7 tele tech support
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1-2 years of acute care experience required
- Minimum 12 months of core experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skills required include ostomy care, some drain management, and IV skills
- Experience managing drips including heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone
- Basic Med Surg skills required; observation unit experience preferred
- Experience with admissions/discharges in a fast-paced setting
- Epic EMR experience required
- At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide telemetry and medical-surgical nursing care to a patient population that is mostly ambulatory
- No ventilator or trach patients on this unit
- Strong unit support including 24/7 charge nurse, unit secretary, hospitalist, and respiratory therapy, plus phlebotomy assistance for peripheral blood draws
- Orientation includes 4-8 hours of new employee orientation on day shift with educator, supervisor, and manager, followed by one full shift on the unit
- Facility follows a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- Holiday coverage required for one holiday per season, including Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Scrubs of any color accepted, with no camo or denim allowed
- Strict pain management documentation required, including pre- and post-medication pain scores that must align with medication orders
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No radius rules apply; local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for this travel position
- Up to 7 days of requested time off can be approved, with additional days requiring manager approval
