Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring a CA RN license and prior high-risk OB experience on nights.
Details
- Hospital-based Labor and Delivery unit caring for a high-risk, culturally diverse OB population
- Unit has 11-15 rooms/beds with an average daily census of 15-20 and approximately 20 visits per day
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
- Weekend shifts required to meet staffing needs
- Floating required to meet facility needs, with travelers given priority to float within their scope
- RNs circulate for cesarean sections
- Postpartum experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required (compact license must be in hand at submission)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate
- Experience with patient ratios of 1:1-3
- Skilled in labor and delivery management, including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with fetal monitoring, including external fetal heart monitoring (EFM) and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience administering medications such as Pitocin, magnesium sulfate therapy, and antihypertensives
- Experience with postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum care and cesarean section recovery
- Newborn care skills including APGAR scoring, cord care, and newborn assessment
- Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum services
- Assist with high-risk deliveries and manage obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage and shock
- Support newborn care in the delivery room, including thermoregulation and infant identification
- Provide discharge teaching and breastfeeding/lactation support to new parents
- Travelers may be expected to float between sister facilities near the contracted location
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- RTO requests limited to no more than 7 days and must be submitted upfront
- Local candidates accepted at a lower bill rate
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are considered local
- Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
