Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PICU RN for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of PICU experience and an SC or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit providing intensive and intermediate care to patients ages 0-18
• Mixed unit caring for both ICU and Stepdown patients with varying ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3
• Common diagnoses include respiratory compromise, trauma, post-operative surgical needs, and neurology/neurosurgery cases
• Unit provides ECMO, CRRT, renal or peritoneal dialysis, and other complex supportive therapies
• Support team includes Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
• Rotating 3x12 shifts on a 50/50 day and night schedule in 4-week blocks (7:00-19:30 days / 19:00-7:30 nights)
• Day shifts require 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, including Saturdays and Sundays
• Night shifts require up to 5 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active SC or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• BLS and PALS certifications required (AHA only accepted)
• ECMO and CRRT experience preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• 1:3 patient ratio experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Interview preferred for candidates on their first travel assignment
• SSN and driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide intensive and intermediate care to pediatric patients with medical and surgical diagnoses
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, teaching hospital, and Magnet-designated hospital with 820 staffed beds
• Pediatric Palliative Care services available as needed for patients
• Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval based on unit needs
• Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June through November, peak in August and September)
• All requested time off must be submitted at time of consideration for approval based on unit needs
• First-time travelers may be considered depending on the position
• Local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius to be prioritized, though local candidates may still be considered
• Previous MUSC perm or PRN staff must be separated from the system for one year before returning as a traveler
