Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring strong neuro critical care skills and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the ICU of a hospital setting, caring for medical, surgical, trauma, and neuro critical care patients
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:2-3
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 or 4x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required within the contract
  • Floating required to Stepdown Unit, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units to care for ICU patients being held
  • Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission, no exceptions
  • BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • 3 years of critical care experience preferred, though strong candidates with less experience may be considered
  • Required proficiency in Epic charting system, no exceptions
  • Strong neuro critical care experience required
  • Skilled in ventilator management, IV drip titration, telemetry monitoring, conscious sedation, and dysrhythmia recognition and management
  • Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Skilled in care of ventilated patients, chest tube assistance, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Experience with CVA/acute stroke management and post-neurosurgery/craniotomy care
  • Skilled in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and emergency medication administration
  • Trauma Level I or II experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to ICU patients, including neuro, trauma, medical, and surgical populations
  • Must complete required EKG/telemetry proficiency testing prior to starting orientation, requiring an 80% or higher passing score with no remediation available
  • Must complete 3 hours of pre-start orientation modules
  • Cannot accommodate candidates requiring a PAPR for fit testing
  • Candidates must not have any history of license or background hits, no exceptions
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Must work two of the three winter holidays if extending through January 2027
  • Longer assignment through January 9, 2027 available but not required
