Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 2-5 years of ED/Critical Care experience and a Maine or compact RN license.
Details
- Emergency Department setting within a hospital, also covering Critical Care patients
- Unit is a Joint Commission Certified Stroke Center
- Emergency Department currently under construction, requiring flexibility with workflow changes
- Future unit configuration includes 20 beds, 3 locked behavioral health beds, 2 triage rooms, and 3 medical/psych swing beds
- Patient ratios range from 4:1 to 5:1
- Uses standard emergency care equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- 36-hour day shift schedule, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Float policy applies within a 25-mile radius between facilities as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI, and NIHSS
- 2 to 5 years of Emergency Department/Critical Care experience required
- Minimum of 1 year of travel nursing experience required
- Strong teamwork, flexibility, and communication and documentation skills required
- Driver's License required for consideration
- 2 professional references required
Additional Information
- Provide emergency and critical care nursing to a diverse ED patient population
- Collaborate within a team-oriented unit that values flexibility and strong communication
- Must wear solid-colored scrubs and maintain professional attire
- Local candidates within 90 miles of any MaineHealth facility are considered local and are not eligible for renewals or extensions
- RTO should be minimal, with 3-4 days considered reasonable for the 13-week contract at manager's discretion
- Candidates who have worked at any MaineHealth facility within the past 12 months must disclose this during consideration
- Use of AirPods, laptops, and cell phones is prohibited while on the unit

Pros
This hospital is hands down the least toxic hospital I have ever had the privilege of working. I absolutely love the people I work with. Everyone I come into contact with likes what they do and they do it with passion. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s close.
Cons
It’s a smaller hospital, so there’s a lot of critical care devices (CRRT, ECMO, etc) to work with like level 1 trauma centers have.
