Description
American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Medical Surgical/Rapid Response unit requiring 2 years of recent experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting with rapid response and trauma-related patient care
- Patient population includes severe orthopedic and soft tissue injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, and neurological trauma
- Patient ratios of approximately 1:5-6
- Night shift schedule with 4x12 hour shifts (18:45-07:15)
- 36 or 48 hour work weeks accepted
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding areas
- Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
- May be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within the last 5 years
- Epic documentation experience required
- Skills required: heparin drip management, PCA, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, and IV starts
- Skills required: dysrhythmia management, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE
- Skills required: traumatic brain injury care, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care
- Preferred skills: interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, drip management, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery care, and spinal cord injury management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- First-time travelers accepted
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive medical surgical nursing care to patients with complex trauma, orthopedic, and neurological conditions
- Unit orientation consists of 12 hours plus 16 hours of organizational education
- Navy scrubs required
- Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
- RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required for rehire
