Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III/IV NICU position requiring a minimum of 3 years of NICU experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a Level III/IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Patient population includes premature infants as young as 22 weeks, surgical infants, and those with hypoxic injury
• Patient ratios of 1:2-4
• Utilizes specialized equipment including Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion pumps, Servo Vents, HFOV, Baby Leo, and Giraffe warmers
• Performs special procedures including therapeutic hypothermia, nitric oxide administration, UAC/UVC, PICC lines, Broviac catheters, trach care, GTT, and ostomy care
• EMR: Epic experience preferred
• Additional systems used include Pyxis, SBAR, and 4P
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
• 36 hours per week
• No call requirements
• Floating required to Peds/PICU/nursery for infants up to 12 months old
• Weekend requirement of 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays within a 6-week period
• Self-scheduling per unit needs

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact)
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a Level III or IV NICU required
• Ventilator management experience required
• Skills include IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, central line blood draws, UAC/UVC care, and administration of vasopressors and emergency medications
• Respiratory skills including Bubble CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Nitric Oxide (iNO), tracheostomy care, and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
• Gastrointestinal skills including colostomy/ileostomy care and various feeding methods
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and sepsis workups
• Experience caring for neonates across gestational ages from <24 weeks to >34 weeks
• Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) experience

• Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates
• 24 hours of unit orientation provided
• Weekly orientation schedule
• Navy blue or white scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure of hospital name and employment dates required at consideration and facility rehire approval needed
• Current travel or per diem clinicians with the facility must choose one status and cannot hold both simultaneously
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units, have separate transportation, and disclose the pairing
• 13-week contracts accepted until end of February, with longer contract lengths available afterward
• Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed prior to starting and annually
