Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring prior travel experience and Level II trauma experience (Level I strongly preferred).
Details
- Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital with 554 staffed beds
- Emergency Department with a patient ratio of 1:5
- Approximately 60%-80% of the ED is comprised of admitted patients, with many ED rooms functioning as ED Holding
- Currently experiencing an increased number of admit holds
- Evening shift, 4x12 hours (13:00-01:30)
- 36 or 48 hour contracts available; 48 hours applies only to travelers with both Level I trauma and travel experience
- Uses Cerner charting system, experience preferred
- Scheduled for weekends as needed (weekend days are Saturday-Sunday, weekend nights are Friday-Sunday)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to Peds ED is optional; floating to Adult PCUs is expected based on staffing needs; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma
Requirements
- Active RN license (NM or Compact) required; may pend at time of submission
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (TNCC must be obtained prior to signing)
- RQI certifications not accepted
- 2 years of ED experience required (will consider 1.5 years)
- Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience strongly preferred
- Travel experience strongly preferred; first-time travelers with 2+ years of Level I trauma experience may be considered
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills preferred: IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, care of ventilated patients, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, and management of neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury cases
- Skills required: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, and triage
- Non-local driver's license required for candidates outside local radius
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include medication administration (including IV medications via the seven medication rights) and documenting and communicating clinical findings
- Must work 2 of the 3 holiday bundles: Thanksgiving & the day after, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve & New Year's Day
- Christmas RTO is not permitted
- RTO requests greater than 7 days require approval; no RTO during the first 7 days or last day of the contract
- Facility may call off up to 3 times throughout the 13-week assignment
- COVID vaccine is optional, but candidates must upload vaccination series or a declination as the facility is required to report vaccine numbers
- Scrub color is black or not provided
- No local candidates within 100 miles of the facility
- Candidates with pending licenses are accepted
- A 6-month system break is required for travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark, whichever comes first
- Former staff must have a 12-month separation before being eligible for this assignment
