Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring a NM or compact RN license and Level II trauma experience.

Details

• ED unit within a Level I Trauma, Children's, and Teaching Hospital with 554 total staffed beds
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00-7:30
• 36 or 48-hour shifts available (48-hour shifts limited to those with both Level I trauma and travel experience)
• 1:5 patient ratio
• Approximately 60%-80% of ED patients are admitted, with many rooms functioning as ED Holding
• Currently experiencing an increased number of admit holds
• Scheduled for weekends as needed (Saturday/Sunday days, Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights)
• Floating to Peds ED is optional; floating to Adult PCUs is expected based on staffing needs; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma
• No on-call requirement
• No block scheduling accommodations
• Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

• Active NM or compact RN license (may pend at time of consideration)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (may pend until compliance due date)
• TNCC certification required prior to consideration
• RQI certifications not accepted
• 2 years of ED experience required (1.5 years may be reviewed)
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience strongly preferred
• Travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with 2+ years Level I trauma experience may be considered without travel experience
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central line care, ventilator patient care, continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and triage
• Experience with trauma cases including gunshot wounds, traumatic amputations, and neuro-trauma preferred

Additional Information

• Administer medications including IV medications using the seven medication rights, and document and communicate clinical findings
• Provide care to a mix of trauma, cardiac, neurological, and general emergency patients
• Must work 2 of the 3 designated holiday bundles: Thanksgiving/day after, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/Day
• Christmas RTO is not permitted
• RTO requests greater than 7 days require approval; maximum of 7 days preferred with 1 holiday preferred
• No RTO permitted during the first 7 days or last day of the contract
• COVID vaccine is optional, but candidates must upload vaccination series or a declination for facility reporting purposes
• Candidates must live outside a 100-mile radius of the facility, and a non-local driver's license is required
• Scrub color is black, though scrubs are not provided
• No parking fee
• First-time travelers may be considered if they have 2+ years of Level I trauma experience, though travel experience is strongly preferred
• Former staff must have a 12-month separation before returning
• A 6-month system break is required after completing 4 consecutive assignments or reaching the one-year mark, whichever comes first
