Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with required orthopedic experience for a night shift assignment.
Details
- Work in a Medical Surgical unit with an orthopedic patient focus
- Care for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries or injuries, managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions
- Unit has 10 rooms/beds with a 1:5 patient ratio
- Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12), working 18:45 to 7:15
- Epic charting system experience preferred
Requirements
- Active RN license (State or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience required
- Orthopedic nursing experience required
- Prior charge nurse experience preferred
- Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, and administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills required, including use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and oxygen administration skills required
- Experience with ortho trauma and total joint replacement care required
- Peripheral nerve block catheter experience preferred
Additional Information
- Deliver specialized orthopedic nursing care including patient and family education on care and prevention
- Respond promptly to life-threatening situations with appropriate nursing interventions
- Organize care delivery by prioritizing, delegating, and communicating with providers and leaders
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply for this unit
- No travel pairs or groups will be considered
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Former staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
- No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
