Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring EPIC experience and NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Medical Surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a daily census of approximately 43
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Performs heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, and high flow oxygen therapy
  • Occasional short-term BiPap respiratory support (no additional training required)
  • No PCU-level patients on this unit
  • Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • 13-26 week contract options available
  • Assigned to every other weekend
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding
  • Call required if placed on a prescheduled call shift
  • Uses PYXIS and EPIC for medication and documentation, and SBAR for communication
  • Charge role preferred for night shift travelers

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • BLS certification required; CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • EPIC experience required
  • Charge nurse experience preferred, especially for night shift
  • Skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, peripheral line care, and surgical drain management preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provides direct medical-surgical nursing care including medication administration, wound care, and respiratory support
  • May be assigned to an Inclement Weather Team and required to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
  • Must be able to work holidays and work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Possibility of caring for COVID-positive patients
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours
  • Scrubs are navy colored and not provided by the facility
  • All travelers and staff must attend monthly unit team meetings, with additional meetings for night shift staff the following Friday morning
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose prior employment details
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Up to 7 days RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
