Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a BMT/Oncology unit position requiring 2 years of acute care BMT/Heme experience and an ONC certification.

Details

  • Work in the Cellular Therapies Unit (BMT/Onc) of a 51-bed inpatient oncology unit
  • Care for patients with blood cancers receiving chemotherapy, biotherapies, and cellular therapies such as stem cell transplants and CAR-T
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 3-4:1, which may flex up based on staffing and unit needs
  • Rotating day and night shifts (3x12 hours), 7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Float required between the BMT/Onc and CTU units, and potentially to sister facilities within the metro region
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (CO or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current AHA BLS certification required
  • ONC (Oncology Nurse Certification) required
  • Chemotherapy administration certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • Minimum 2 years acute care BMT/Heme experience and chemotherapy administration experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Comfortable working in environments with flexible/flexing nurse-to-patient staffing ratios
  • Skilled in oncologic emergency management including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
  • Experience with IV therapy/infusions, blood and blood product administration, port care, and central line care
  • Experience with bone marrow transplant and stem cell therapy administration
  • Experience managing chemotherapy administration via multiple routes including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral administration
  • Skilled in symptom management for altered mental status, GI symptoms, edema, neuropathy, and related oncology symptoms
  • Experience caring for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and chest tube care and management

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy, biotherapies, and cellular therapies
  • Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values and manage treatment-related complications
  • Manage graft-versus-host disease and other CAR-T/stem cell therapy-related complications
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed within the first week of assignment
  • Maximum 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with RTO restricted during select peak periods including early September, late October to early November, late November to early December, and year-end holidays
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility may be eligible for a local bill rate
  • Candidates who have previously worked for the health system in any capacity may face eligibility restrictions
