Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical position requiring 2+ years of experience and a WV or Compact RN license.
Details
- >Works in the 5S Medical Surgical unit of a teaching hospital
- Cares for general med/surg patients including gastrointestinal, respiratory, neurological, cardiovascular, and renal cases
- Patient ratio of 1:5-7
- Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12), including weekdays and weekends
- Shift hours are 19:00-7:00
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Floating and scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed but will be accommodated when possible
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for consideration)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS through AHA
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Cerner charting experience required
- Minimum 2 Manager and/or Charge Nurse references from within the past 2 years required
- Skills needed include IV therapy, wound care, cardiac monitoring, tracheostomy care, and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and IV insulin protocols required
Additional Information
- Provide direct medical-surgical nursing care including medication administration, wound care, and monitoring of cardiac and respiratory status
- Utilize skills in GI, respiratory, neurological, cardiovascular, and renal patient care
- Respond to rapid response and code team activations as needed
- Facility expects minimal call-offs (2-3 per contract) due to prior attendance concerns
- Candidates must have a permanent address more than 100 miles from the facility; those between 75-100 miles may be considered case-by-case at the same rate
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from their last date of employment before returning as a traveler
- Current employees of the Vandalia Health System (including CAMC Health Systems, Mon Health Systems, Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, Webster Memorial Hospital, Grafton City Hospital, Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, and Minnie Hamilton Health System) are not eligible for travel contracts within the system
- Non-billable Cerner training modules required prior to start, averaging 8 hours to complete
- Orientation is held every other Monday
- Scrubs are not provided
- First-time travelers are not eligible due to travel experience requirement
