Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatrics position requiring ND or compact licensure, BLS and PALS certification, and 2 years of Peds/MS nursing experience.

Details

  • 13-week travel contract on a night shift schedule in an acute care Pediatrics unit at a Level 2 trauma facility
  • 7-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3
  • Patient population ranges from ages 0-18 with diagnoses including stable MS, intermediate peds, surgical/ortho, GI, MVAs, respiratory conditions, diabetes, seizures, failure to thrive, and occasional bili babies
  • Unit also performs pre-op and second phase care for some pediatric patients
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Tylenol, Keppra, and Insulin (candidates without Insulin experience will still be considered)
  • No charge nurse on shift, with only two nurses working together on the unit
  • Patient care techs available when census exceeds 5
  • Pediatrician in house 7 days a week until 5pm, on call overnight
  • RT in house 24/7 supporting CPAP, high flow, and nasal cannula equipment with minimal troubleshooting required
  • Telemetry monitored remotely by staff on another floor using Philips monitors; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
  • Shift options include days (7a-7p), nights (7p-7a), or day/night rotation with self-scheduling based on seniority; block scheduling may be considered
  • Every other weekend or every third weekend required
  • 2 holidays required per year
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required as census fluctuates, primarily to NICU and newborn nursery, with possible utilization for 1:1 sitting

Requirements

  • Active ND or compact RN license required
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Peds/MS nursing experience required
  • Must be able to titrate drips
  • PICU and NICU experience preferred
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Work on a locked, zoo-themed unit with a close-knit team, featuring themed patient rooms, play rooms, and an aquarium-themed bathtub room
  • Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Any color scrubs permitted
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not currently hold full-time, part-time, or PRN status with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
