Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring telemetry skills, cardiac drip titration, and 12-hour night shifts.

- ospital unospital setting on a 56-bed Progressive Care Unit
- Patient population includes CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Tele (days and nights)
- CNA support at 1:8 ratio (days and nights)
- 12-hour night shift schedule with weekend rotation (every other or 50% of weekends per 4-week schedule; weekends defined as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- 36 hours per week
- Not scheduled for on-call hours unless related to low census
- Charting via Epic (preferred) with Alaris and Omnicell equipment used on the unit
- Floating may occur to Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (based on experience), or Observation units, in rotation with other travelers
- 24/7 support available from charge nurses, phlebotomy, resource/flex RN, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and centralized tele monitoring
- Required to attend huddles prior to shift start at 0625 and 1825
Requirements
- Active RN license (Standard or Compact) through the South Dakota Board of Nursing
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or Telemetry RN experience required
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, and chest tube maintenance
- Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip titration (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and occasionally Betablockers or other antihypertensives) preferred
- Experience with insulin drip management for both DKA and non-DKA patients
- Experience with continuous bladder irrigation
- Strong clinical judgment, physical assessment skills, and effective communication required
- Comfortable working in a team nursing model alongside LPNs
- Must not have been a previous permanent staff member within the last year
Additional Information
- First-time travelers accepted for RN positions with more than 2 years of experience
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online education plus two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday during the contracted timeframe
- Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved; contract extension required if unable to work a full week to meet the 13-week contract; no RTO permitted during the first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
- May be asked to precept nursing students
- Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring with a 90% compliance requirement
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
