Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Pediatric Behavioral Health position requiring 2 years of experience and an active TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in the Pediatric Behavioral Health unit of a hospital setting
• Care for pediatric and adolescent patients ages 5-17
• Patient ratio of 1:11
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Requirements

• Active RN license (TX or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and Nursys required; Safe Program certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Skilled in medication administration including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and sedative/analgesic medications
• Experience caring for patients with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, and suicidal behavior
• Proficient in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and behavior management
• Skilled in blood glucose monitoring, Foley catheter insertion/management, and seclusion protocols
• Experience in inpatient, locked unit, and medical/psych treatment settings preferred
• Knowledge of physical hold protocols and emergent chemical restraints preferred
• Familiarity with voluntary/involuntary commitment and seclusion legal aspects preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health patients in a locked inpatient unit
• This is a staff nurse position with no charge nurse responsibilities
• Facility conducts its own mandatory drug screen upon arrival, including marijuana testing, with automatic cancellation for positive results
• Must reside outside a 110-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
• Travel nursing experience is highly preferred
