Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Pediatric Behavioral Health position requiring 2 years of experience and an active TX or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Pediatric Behavioral Health unit of a hospital setting
- Care for pediatric and adolescent patients ages 5-17
- Patient ratio of 1:11
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Requirements
- Active RN license (TX or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and Nursys required; Safe Program certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Skilled in medication administration including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and sedative/analgesic medications
- Experience caring for patients with anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, and suicidal behavior
- Proficient in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and behavior management
- Skilled in blood glucose monitoring, Foley catheter insertion/management, and seclusion protocols
- Experience in inpatient, locked unit, and medical/psych treatment settings preferred
- Knowledge of physical hold protocols and emergent chemical restraints preferred
- Familiarity with voluntary/involuntary commitment and seclusion legal aspects preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric and adolescent behavioral health patients in a locked inpatient unit
- This is a staff nurse position with no charge nurse responsibilities
- Facility conducts its own mandatory drug screen upon arrival, including marijuana testing, with automatic cancellation for positive results
- Must reside outside a 110-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
- Travel nursing experience is highly preferred
