Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a CA RN license and 3+ years of recent L&D experience with high-risk pregnancy competency.
Details
- Work in the L&D Unit of a Trauma Level 2 hospital with 10 LDR rooms, 2 OR/PACU suites, and 10 antepartum rooms
- Unit averages 240 deliveries per month
- Patient population includes 20% high-risk cases such as diabetics, pre-eclampsia, advanced maternal age, IDDM, placenta previa, maternal cardiac history, twins, and lupus
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:1-4 based on patient acuity
- RNs circulate in the OR but do not scrub
- Uses Epic documentation system and Pyxis medication system
- Fetal monitoring performed using HP monitors with central monitoring available
- Maternal adult monitoring (HP) used as needed in LDR and on all recovery patients
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7; RT manages ventilators
- Anesthesia, in-house Nurse Midwives (24 hours), and OB physicians (14 hrs/day) support the unit
- Neonatologists present 7 days a week and on-call 24 hours/day
- 12-hour night shift schedule, 36 hours per week
- Floating required, potentially to Mother Baby unit and up to 1-2 units per 12-hour shift, with travelers floating first
- No charge nurse responsibilities required
- No self-scheduling available
- Must work 4 out of 8 weekend shifts per schedule with no set weekends
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Fetal Assessment
- Minimum 3+ years of recent clinical experience required
- Minimum 3+ years of recent L&D specialty experience required
- Must be autonomous and skilled in performing vaginal exams
- Strong fetal heart monitoring skill set required
- Must be comfortable managing high-risk pregnancies, including MgSO4 infusions
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care in a fast-paced Labor & Delivery unit using a primary care modality
- Support high-risk obstetric patients including C-sections, tubal ligations, D&C, and post-amnio care
- Facility-provided scrubs required; must arrive and leave in street clothes
- Dress code requires non-skid closed-toe shoes, minimal jewelry, no facial piercings other than ears, and neat hair/facial hair
- Nail polish must be chip-free with no gels, acrylics, or extensions
- 3-4 days of orientation provided
- Must be available for 2 out of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) and 2 out of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day)
- Prior travel experience not required, making this role open to first-time travelers
