Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 1 year of acute care experience and an active MI RN license.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Level 4 trauma facility with 24 inpatient beds and up to 10 observation surgeries per day
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit with common diagnoses including cellulitis, UTI, COPD, sepsis, pacemaker, and post-surgical ortho, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and TURP-CBI cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at night, with team nursing model including LPNs at 2:7 ratio
- 12-hour day shifts (0700-1900), with self-scheduling accommodated when possible
- Weekend rotation required (every other weekend, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
- On-call/standby opportunity may be required
- Floating to like units required
- Charge nurse role available for travelers as relief charge
- Hospitalist coverage on-site until 6pm daily, telemedicine coverage overnight
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 with CPAP equipment
- Cerner EMR currently in use, transitioning to Epic
- Basic tele arrhythmia monitoring performed at nurses' station, no dedicated tele techs
- No IV team on-site, RNs must be comfortable performing IV starts
- RNs not required to titrate drips
Requirements
- Active RN license in Michigan (MI) required by start date
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg-Tele acute care experience required
- Experience or knowledge of TURP-CBI procedures preferred
- Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 hospital experience preferred
- Must be comfortable performing independent IV starts due to limited on-site resources
- BSN not required for this position
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit including monitoring, medication administration, and coordination with team nursing staff
- Small pediatric population (approximately 3 patients/year) typically not assigned to travelers unless prior pediatric experience or no alternative staff available
- Unit orientation includes 8 hours of computer training and shadowing on day 1, a 12-hour oriented shift on day 2, and independent work beginning day 3
- Nurse aides are present on the unit to support patient care
- Solid, professional-colored scrubs required (no specific color mandated)
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- Candidates who previously worked for the health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
