Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Oncology unit position requiring Epic experience and 2 years of specialty experience with a Compact or LA RN license.

Details

  • Work in an Oncology unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes Hematology, Medical Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and Gynecologic & Surgical Oncology cases
  • 7-bed positive pressure wing dedicated to BMT and acute leukemia patients
  • Unit performs bedside CVC placements and bone marrow biopsies
  • Uses Epic-integrated Alaris IV pumps, barcode medication administration, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps
  • 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 7:15
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend
  • Floating required
  • No call-in requirement
  • Epic charting system experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Compact or LA) required in hand at time of submission
  • AHA-certified BLS and ACLS required
  • ONS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy and starting/maintaining IVs required
  • Experience with accessing/managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and phlebotomy preferred
  • Experience with oncology-specific skills such as chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
  • Experience with colostomy/ileostomy management and feeding tube care preferred
  • Experience with neurological conditions such as CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury preferred
  • Experience administering Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications preferred
  • Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and remote telemetry monitoring preferred
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols preferred
  • Experience in Med/Surg, MS/Tele, and Telemetry settings preferred
  • Experience with post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, and post-MI care preferred
  • Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care preferred
  • Up-to-date NURSYS report required (within 4 weeks of submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to oncology and BMT patients, including administration and monitoring of chemotherapy
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, and perform bedside procedures such as bone marrow biopsies
  • Utilize isolation precautions and PPE per unit protocols
  • Orientation held 5 days a week
  • Modules are completed during orientation and are billable
  • Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
  • Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have been separated from the health system for at least 1 full year before returning as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • RTO must be discussed prior to offer to avoid risk of rescission
  • Two Manager/Supervisor references (not Charge RNs) required prior to start of contract
