Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring Epic experience and a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Details

• Work in the Oncology unit of a hospital environment
• Patient population includes Hematology, Medical Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), and Gynecologic & Surgical Oncology patients
• 7-bed positive pressure wing dedicated to BMT and acute leukemia patients
• Performs bedside CVC placements and bone marrow biopsies
• 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Uses Alaris IV pumps (Epic-integrated), barcode medication administration, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend
• Floating required
• No call-in requirement

Requirements

• Active RN license (Louisiana or Compact) required in hand upon consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through AHA required
• ONS certification preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access and management, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Oncology skills including chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
• Experience with central line blood draws, PICC line management, and blood product administration preferred
• Familiarity with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and telemetry preferred
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and IV insulin protocols
• Up-to-date NURSYS report required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to hematology, oncology, BMT, and gynecologic/surgical oncology patients including specialized procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and CVC placements
• May be assigned to an emergency response team by unit management during declared emergency events, which could require staying onsite until the event concludes or serving as part of a relief team
• Orientation held five days a week
• Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility (based on driver's license address) to be considered for this position
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Two Manager/Supervisor references (not Charge RNs) required prior to starting the contract, though not required for initial consideration
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors at this health system must have a full year separation before returning as a traveler
• Requested time off (RTO) should be discussed during the interview process to avoid complications with the offer
