Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 2+ years of large teaching hospital experience and prior travel assignment history.

Details

  • Women's hospital setting with dedicated Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units
  • Level III Perinatal Center performing 4,500+ deliveries per year (300+ per month)
  • Handles both routine deliveries and complex high-risk maternal/fetal cases
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:00
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Required to float between Postpartum and Labor & Delivery/OR
  • L&D nurses also cover antepartum and OR/PACU as part of unit duties
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule period
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Prior travel assignment experience at a large institution required
  • Large teaching hospital experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, AWHONN, FHM, and NRP
  • ACLS and AWHONN Advanced certifications preferred
  • Experience with high-risk antepartum and high-risk delivery required
  • Skilled in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, forceps/vacuum extraction, and C-section circulation/recovery
  • Experience with IV therapy, blood product administration, and infusion pump management required
  • Flu vaccination required with no exemptions, allergy-free option available if needed

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Antepartum units
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, C-section circulation, and postpartum recovery
  • Perform newborn care including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation
  • Manage fetal monitoring including external and internal EFM and IUPC placement
  • Support patients with high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, and HELLP syndrome
  • Provide postpartum care including lactation support, fundus/lochia assessment, and wound care
  • Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former staff may return as travelers only after a 12-month separation period
  • No time off permitted during the first week of the contract
  • Required certifications must be obtained prior to the start date
