Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a night shift assignment requiring 2 years of acute care experience and a CO or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Medical Surgical Oncology unit of a hospital setting with 36 staffed beds
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, various days of the week
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 on day shift and 1:5 on night shift, with flexibility based on staffing needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities based on facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Navy scrub color required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (CO or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Prior experience in environments with flexible staffing ratios required
  • Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, and central/PICC line care
  • Experience recognizing and managing oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
  • Skilled in symptom management for chemotherapy patients, including nausea, neuropathy, and altered mental status
  • Experience with neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
  • Foley catheter insertion and management skills required
  • Comfortable providing post-surgical and inpatient oncology care

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive medical-surgical oncology nursing care including chemotherapy administration, port and line care, and management of oncologic emergencies
  • Support patients with psychosocial needs including advanced directives, hospice care, and symptom management
  • Administer medications including antiemetics and antitumor agents as needed
  • Perform professional nursing skills such as chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, and wound care
  • Complete all facility-specific training modules within the first week of the assignment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods during select weeks in September, October-November, and December 2026
  • No blocked scheduling requests permitted
  • Candidates previously employed by the health system or its affiliates may not be eligible for consideration
  • Returning travelers who completed a full year on assignment must wait at least one year before rebooking
