Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an ICU night shift position requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details

• bed mixed ICU unit within a 388-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center hospital
• Patient population includes Medical ICU (DKA, DTs, multisystem failure, ARDS, CIWA/ETOH, sepsis, PNA, COVID), Surgical ICU (open abdomen, thoracotomies), Neuro ICU (CVA, intracranial hemorrhage, craniotomy/craniectomy with EVDs and ICP monitoring), and CVICU (CABG/TAVR post-op, fem-pop bypass, AAA repair)
• Travelers are not expected to care for CRRT, Impella, balloon pump, or ECMO patients
• Patient ratio of 1:2-3 based on acuity
• 12-hour night shift schedule with every other weekend rotation
• Uses Epic EMR, BD Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Floating required to Respiratory (Medical Floor), Surgical Floor, Telemetry Floor, PCU, and ED (helping hands, transport, sitting, task-based)
• 24/7 support from a Rapid Response Nurse, Resource Nurse, Free Floating Charge Nurse, Hospitalist, and RT
• Mobility Tech and HUC support available on select shifts
• Intensivist present during the day with occasional overnight on-call coverage
• Unit follows a gradual acuity ramp-up process for new travelers

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Experience stronger in Medical ICU than CV/Surgical ICU preferred
• Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, medication titration, proning, hypothermia protocol, chest tubes, drains, and invasive line monitoring (a-lines, CVP)
• Must complete and pass Traveler Telemetry Competency exam prior to start
• Epic EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across a mixed ICU population with a gradual increase in acuity as skills are assessed
• General orientation includes two 12-hour shifts of on-unit training
• Up to 5 days of time off may be approved, excluding holidays
• Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per season (summer/winter)
• Overtime may be available but is offered to staff first
• Scrubs of any professional color are acceptable
