Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Newborn Nursery/Level II NICU position requiring NRP certification and 2 years of newborn nursery experience.
Details
- Work in the Newborn Nursery (Level II NICU) unit of a 294-bed hospital
- Unit consists of 12 Level I beds and 2 Level II beds
- Patient population includes newborns from 36-41 weeks gestation
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Uses GE Centricity EHR system
- Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- 36 guaranteed weekly hours
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- May float to assist Postpartum or Labor & Delivery, but will not take a full assignment in those units
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
- NRP certification required
- PALS and STABLE certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of newborn nursery experience required
- Self-motivated with strong independent work skills
- Meditech experience preferred
- Social Security number and date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to newborns in a Level II NICU/Newborn Nursery setting
- Facility is Joint Commission Accredited and part of the Duke Lifepoint hospital system
- Unit led by a Director and Supervisor providing oversight and support
- Scrub color is optional; travelers may wear their own scrubs
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly
- Candidates must live 60 miles or greater from the facility to be considered for travel rate
- Travelers cannot have worked as permanent staff at any Lifepoint facility within the last 12 months
- Candidates cannot be employed elsewhere full time while on assignment

Doctors and most of staff are nice. Surgeries are not hard.
Cons
No staff so a lot of call. You will be on call within your first week or two, even if you don't know how to do anything. Unorganized. The director and supervisor don't know anything about the OR nor are they helpful. New staff are not properly trained. Everything falls on the OR nurse to do. They preop in house patients getting surgery. A couple of OR staff are bullies and lazy, they all think they are the boss. They tell the charge nurse what they are going to do and not going to do. Its like high school all over. Had to leave out of fear for my license.
