Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring at least 2 years of ED experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in the Emergency Services department of a 93-bed hospital with an 11-bed ED unit
  • Level III Trauma Center, ACC Chest Pain/STEMI Center, and Joint Commission Acute Ready Stroke Center
  • Small ED with high acuity, averaging approximately 1100 patient visits per month
  • Care for patients of all ages from neonates to elderly presenting with ESI levels 1-5
  • Typical patient ratio of 4-5:1 assuming ESI level 3 average acuity
  • Treat stroke, STEMI, trauma, and sepsis patients
  • No inpatient psych unit; psych patients are boarded in the ED until placement is secured
  • ED RNs make placement calls for psych patients during night and weekend shifts
  • Day shift schedule from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM with weekend requirements
  • Floating to other departments required when not needed in the ED, averaging about 1 shift per 13-week assignment
  • EMR system is MEDHOST EDIS
  • Medication dispensing via Omnicell; no barcode medication scanning currently in use in the ED
  • Night shift RNs required to mix some medication drips using vial to bag adapters

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MO state or compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ED RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of travel nursing experience required
  • Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment start
  • Required skills: triage, PIV insertion, port access/deaccess, foley placement, NG/OG tube placement, wound care, splint/OCL application
  • Must be able to assist with arterial line, central line, and chest tube placement
  • US guided IV skills preferred
  • Must be willing to answer call lights and transport patients
  • No employment gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months

Additional Information

  • Perform rapid triage and assessment of ED patients in a team-based, direct-to-bed care model
  • Ensure appropriate EMTALA paperwork is completed per regulatory and hospital policy guidelines
  • Willingness to precept eventually required, though not immediately; prior preceptor or charge experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Scrub requirement: any solid color
  • Candidates must not have worked at this health system as permanent staff within the past 2 years
  • Does not accept local candidates within a 50-mile radius
  • RTO requests must be less than 1 week
  • First-time travelers will be considered as long as the 1+ year travel experience requirement is met
