Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN - Medical Surgical for a 12-week hospital assignment requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience and a GA or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
- Care for an adult to geriatric patient population with diagnoses including appendicitis, cholecystitis, small bowel obstruction, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, and hypertension
- Support surgical patients including prostatectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ostomy creation/reversal, exploratory laparotomy, and bowel resections
- Utilize equipment such as NGT, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound vacs
- Maintain a 1:6 patient ratio on a 34-bed unit with an average daily census of 27
- Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR unit systems
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Work every other weekend unless otherwise specified
- Floating required within the facility and scope of practice as needed
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required; NIH certification also required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
- Prior experience with a 1:6 patient ratio preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers also accepted
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line/PICC line management preferred
- Skills in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube, and high flow nasal cannula management preferred
- Wound care and wound vac management experience preferred
- Cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and dysrhythmia interpretation skills preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg patients including pre/post-surgical monitoring, wound care, and medication administration
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Full compliance with onboarding requirements needed to start on time, as delays may push back the start date by two weeks due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
- Holiday coverage required based on the number of major holidays falling within the assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day)
- Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, which must be finalized at time of submission
- No RTO or schedule change requests permitted after offer or during orientation week
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Previous Piedmont employees (perm, per diem, or FCSS) must be away from all Piedmont facilities for one full year before applying as a traveler
- Returning travelers who were previously cancelled or given a facility DNR must complete one assignment outside of Piedmont before reapplying
